Estelle Brody (15 August 1900 – 3 June 1995) was an American actress who became one of the biggest female stars of British silent film in the latter half of the 1920s. Her career was then derailed by a series of ill-advised decisions and she disappeared from sight for many years before re-emerging between the late 1940s and the 1960s in smaller supporting film and television roles.

Fact
1
American-born silent star of the British screen, originally trained as a dancer. Touted as being of Canadian birth for publicity reasons, she was most acclaimed for her titular role in Mademoiselle from Armentieres (1927). Her other British hits included Fanny Hawthorne (1927) and Kitty (1929). Homesick, and determined to make a success back home in the U.S., she made an ill-advised stab at Hollywood, but finding opportunities scarce. She re-emerged as a character actress during the late 1940's, and in 1969 retired to live out the rest of her life on the island of Malta, where she died in June 1995 at the age of 95.
