1American second feature director, who started working on shorts for Paramount. In 1929 he co-directed The Marx Brothers in their first feature, The Cocoanuts (1929). Except for spells with RKO (1936-38) and Universal (1938-39), Santley spent virtually his entire career working for Poverty Row studios like Republic, Monogram and Mascot, turning out B-musicals and comedies.
2Began as a child actor in vaudeville, billed as "The World's Greatest Boy Actor". First on the legitimate stage in New York in 1906, starring in the title role of "Billy the Kid". Continued to work on Broadway in various capacities, including as actor, choreographer or producer, until 1932.
