Peter Gammons grew up in Groton, Massachusetts. He attended the University of North Carolina, graduating in 1969, and then began his journalism career at the Boston Globe. Winner of the 2004 J.G. Taylor Spink Award for meritorious contributions to baseball writing. Award was presented at the 2005 induction ceremonies at the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
