Kathryn "Kate" Adie /ˈeɪdi/, OBE DL (born 19 September 1945), is an English journalist. Her most high-profile role was that of chief news correspondent for BBC News, during which time she became well known for reporting from war zones around the world. She currently presents From Our Own Correspondent on BBC Radio 4.
At age 34 Kate's first real journalistic career break came in May 1980 when she was assigned by the BBC to report on the Iranian Embassy hostage crisis in London. This she did unscripted from behind a car door just as Britain's elite SAS (Special Air Services) commenced their surgical "Operation Nimrod" assault on the embassy building, an exercise that was televised for all the world to see.
