Duncan Carse was born on July 28, 1913 in Fulham, London, England as Werner Duncan Carse. He was an actor and writer, known for The White Continent (1951), Islands of the West (1972) and Horizon (1964). He was married to Ann Venetia Carse, Bertha Sylvia Hadfield and Unknown. He died on May 2, 2004 in Chichester, West Sussex, England.
His first name, Werner, was changed to Verner when he was a small boy, probably around the time of the First World War.

From September 1949 to October 1950 he played the lead role in the BBC radio serial 'Dick Barton: Special Agent', based on the popular character created by 'Norman Collis' , replacing Noel Johnson .

Between 1951 and 1957 he organised and led the South Georgia Survey, an expedition to map the remote islands in the Southern Atlantic. His work proved invaluable during the 1982 Falklands War and he has two places named after him in the region: Carse Point on the east coast of George VI Sound, Graham Land, and of Mount Carse, South Georgia.
