She’s a multi-platinum and four-time Grammy Award-winning musician. Chapman’s latest release is 2008’s “Our Bright Future”. At Elektra, she released Tracy Chapman (1988). The record was critically acclaimed, and she began touring and building a fanbase. Rolling Stone ranked the tune number 167 on their 2010 list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. It’s the best-rank tune both composed and performed with a female performer. “Talkin’ ’bout a Revolution”, the followup, charted at number 75 and was followed by “Baby Can I Hold You”, which peaked at number 48. The record sold well, going multi-platinum and winning three Grammy Awards, including an honour for Chapman as Best New Artist. After in 1988, Chapman was a featured performer on the global Amnesty International Human Rights Now! Tour. As stated by the VH1 web site, “Her record helped usher in the age of political correctness—along with 10,000 Maniacs and R.E.M., Chapman’s liberal politics proved hugely influential on American college campuses in the late ’80s.”

Quote
1
"Who knows? Songwriting is a very mysterious process. It feels like creating something from nothing. It's something I don't feel like I really control. I'm never sure if: 1) I'll ever write another song, 2) what the song will be about and 3) if what initially sparked the beginning of a song might complete it. Some things remain fragments, just the lyrics and melodies or a line or two or a verse. I often write either really early in the morning, just when I'm waking up, or really late at night. "You're the One" was a song that came to me in the morning. I woke up on my birthday, March 30, and wrote that song." - When asked 'What was the inspiration behind "You're the One?"'
