Tevin Jermod Campbell (born November 12, 1976) is an American singer, songwriter and performer. Produced in Waxahachie, Texas, he exhibited a passion for singing at an extremely early age, performing gospel in his local church. Following an audition to get a well-known jazz musician in 1988, Campbell was signed to Warner Bros. Records. In 1991, Campbell collaborated with renowned music impresario Quincy Jones and released his platinum-selling debut record, “T.E.V.I.N.”.
His double-platinum selling second record, “I am Ready”, released in 1993, contained two of Campbell’s most famous tunes, “Can We Talk” which peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the record’s title track “I am Ready”, which likewise peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1996, Campbell released his third album, “Back to the World”, which wasn’t as commercially or critically successful as his initial two releases. His self-titled fourth album, “Tevin Campbell”, premiered in 1999, but, performed badly on Billboard’s album charts. Throughout his career, Campbell has earned 5 Grammy Award nominations, selling an estimated 3 million record copies world-wide (mostly from his initial two records).
