Neil Diamond Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018
Neil Diamond comes with an estimated net worth of $175 million Neil Diamond is an American singer songwriter with an estimated net worth of $175 million. Some of his hits include “Solitary Man,” “Cherry,Cherry,” and “Kentucky Woman.” He is six feet tall and weighs 160 pounds. Neil Leslie Diamond was born on January 24, 1941 in Brooklyn, ny. Diamond was the son of a store owner and housewife, both of whom emigrated from Europe to America and settled in nyc. Diamond attended Abraham Lincoln High School where he was an associate of the fencing team, eventually earning a scholarship to New York University where he’d be a part of the 1960 NCAA men’s tournament fencing team. Although he’d later say his childhood dream was to be a medical researcher, his gift for music proved too powerful after he got his first guitar when he was 16 as he started composing his own tunes shortly after and was offered a job composing tunes to get a music publishing company while still in school.
He’d finally leave the university to pursue his music career full time and shortly was performing along with composing tunes.
Even though the zenith of his career came in the 1960s and 1970s, Diamond has continued to remain important for the last three decades with new stuff, including a long foray into country music & most importantly through a constantly touring throughout Earth. A lot of his tunes have become mythical themes in everything from films to baseball stadiums — “Sweet Caroline” is sung at every Boston Red Sox match by the whole Fenway Park bunch. He tried his hand at acting in The Jazz Singer, even though the attempt was roundly criticized even when the film caused the tunes “Love on the Rocks” and “America.” Diamond has been married three times and has four kids. Even into his 70s, he continues to tour and stay a power in the music business.

# | Quote |
---|---|
1 | Love is the elixir of eternal youth. |
2 | This is my job. Someone much greater than me gave me that job. He said, "You, you with that stupid look on your face - go out and sing until I tell you to stop." I haven't heard the word yet so I'm just going to keep doing it. |
3 | I already have "Sweet Caroline". Most of these people haven't heard "Hell Yeah" or "Man of God", but I see them and they're listening, and that's really all I want. |
4 | Somehow, it's dawning on me that I'm a more mature individual and I'm not a kid writing "Cherry, Cherry" anymore. |
5 | I want to know what marathon runners do. Because I do the same thing. I run a two-hour marathon every time onstage. So I have my electrolytes kept at a certain level, and I do my carb-loading after the shows for the next night. |
6 | I never expected that I would be doing this for as long as I've been doing it. So looking back and seeing that it's been over 40 years since the first hits makes you think, "Is there a time that you stop?". But I don't think I'm ever going to stop. It's the only challenge I have left in my life. |
7 | I'm not there to entertain people. We're there to do something together. |
8 | My voice is unadorned. I don't try for perfection. I try to be honest and truthful and soulful with the voice I have. If I make mistakes in notes, or there are cracks in notes, I don't fix them. That's the way it is. |
9 | It's very difficult for me to say "I love you" but to sing "I love you" for me is easier. |

1 | Inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007. |
2 | He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 1750 North Vine Street in Hollywood, California on August 10, 2012. |
3 | In an interview in 2009, he revealed that his inspiration for his 1969 song "Sweet Caroline" was Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy. |
4 | Winner of the inaugural Billboard Icon Award, from Billboard magazine (2011). |
5 | Recipient of the 2011 Kennedy Center Honors, along with Barbara Cook, Yo-Yo Ma, Sonny Rollins and Meryl Streep. |
6 | Ran away from his home in Brooklyn at age 13 and went to the Midwest where he formed a musical group called The Roadrunners. They performed in coffeehouses for two years, after which Neil went home. |
7 | Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14, 2011. The other inductees were Darlene Love, Alice Cooper, Leon Russell, Tom Waits and Dr. John. |
8 | Father of musician-turned-photographer Jesse Diamond. |
9 | Inducted into the American Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984. |
10 | Originally denied Quentin Tarantino permission to use his hit song "Girl, You'll Be a Woman, Soon" for the famous scene in Pulp Fiction (1994) in which Uma Thurman lip syncs the words to the song. Diamond eventually relented after his agent assured him that Tarantino was an up and coming director. |
11 | His 1982 Burt Bacharach/Carole Bayer Sager-penned hit "Heartlight" was inspired by the movie E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982). |
12 | Suggested for the lead role in Taxi Driver (1976), which went to Robert De Niro. |
13 | Was forced to pay $150,000,000 to former wife Marcia Murphey in their divorce settlement. This holds the record as the most expensive divorce in history. |
14 | In 1981, his screen "acting" debut in The Jazz Singer (1980) beat out Kirk Douglas (Saturn 3 (1980)), Anthony Hopkins (A Change of Seasons (1980)), Richard Dreyfuss (The Competition (1980)), Michael Caine (The Island (1980)), Robert Blake (Coast to Coast (1980)) and four others to "win" the first-ever Worst Actor Razzie Award for 1980. |
15 | Was a top fencer during his time at New York University. |
16 | Father-in-law of actress Sheryl Lee. |
17 | For his role in The Jazz Singer (1980), Diamond became the first ever "Winner" of a Worst Actor Razzie Award. |
18 | Penned hits for other pop groups before making it on his own, including The Monkees' "I'm a Believer". |
19 | His soundtrack to the film Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1973) grossed more than the movie itself. |
20 | Was a pre-med student, interested in Biology, at New York University, but left with less than a year left, due to his dislike of organic chemistry. He was at New York University on a fencing scholarship. |
21 | When he and Barbra Streisand had a smash hit in 1978 with "You Don't Bring Me Flowers", it was not the first time that the Brooklyn-born superstars had sung together. While students at New York City's Erasmus High School, they both sang in the school choir. |
22 | Screen-tested for the lead in the movie Lenny (1974), based on the life of famed comedian Lenny Bruce, but turned it down. |
23 | Seriously considered "Eyce Charry" and "Noah Kaminsky" for his professional name. |
