Johnny Mathis Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018
Beginning his career with singles of conventional music, he became tremendously popular as an album artist, with several dozen of his records reaching gold or platinum status and 73 making the Billboard charts to date. Although he’s often called an enchanting singer, his discography includes jazz, traditional pop, Brazilian music, Spanish music, soul music, rhythm and blues, soft rock, Broadway theater, Tin Pan Alley standards, some blues and country tunes, as well as a number of disco tunes for his record “Mathis Magic” in 1979. Mathis also recorded five albums of Christmas music. In a 1968 interview, Mathis mentioned Lena Horne, Nat King Cole, and Bing Crosby among his musical influences.
Mathis was seen at a jam session by Helen Noga, the previous head cocktail waitress and co-owner of the Black Hawk Club in San Francisco along with The DownBeat Club, in addition to her husband John and Guido Caccienti. She became his musical supervisor. The clubs brought the planet ‘s finest jazz musicians, including Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, and Billie Holiday. John Noga and Guido Caccienti had started the Black Hawk in the autumn of 1949. Avakian came to listen to Mathis sing, and after doing so, he sent a telegram to Columbia Records saying: Have located incredible 19-year old lad who could go all of the way. Send clean contracts.

1 | If you really want to learn about a person, play a round of golf with him or her. You'll learn how they treat their dog, their husband or wife, and their children. You'll learn how they react to missed opportunities, because that's all golf is--a lot of missed opportunities. |
2 | For the first 20 years of my life, I think, I sang standing with my eyes closed and my fists clenched. Mostly it didn't bother the people in the audience, but it did bother the critics, so much that I got horrible reviews, terrible. They said 'He has no stage presence', 'He's shy', 'He doesn't know what to do between songs', 'He fidgets', 'When he sings, he closes his eyes and just goes off and...' Those reviews bothered me a great deal. But I lived with it. And then finally one day all the reviews became positive. And I hadn't changed at all, it's just that they finally decided that they liked what I was doing. |
