Brian Harold May CBE (born 19 July 1947) is an English musician, vocalist, songwriter and astrophysicist who attained international acclaim as the lead guitarist of the rock band Queen. He uses a home-built guitar, called the “Red Special”. He was made a Commander of the Very Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2005 for “services to the music business as well as for charity work”. He resides in Windlesham, Surrey. He’s an active animal rights supporter and was made a vice president of animal welfare charity the RSPCA in September 2012. In 2005, a Planet Rock survey saw May voted the 7th best guitarist ever. In 2012, May was rated the 2nd best guitarist ever by a “Guitar World” magazine readers poll.
