John Alton Benton (March 18, 1911 – April 14, 1968) was a Major League Baseball right-handed pitcher who played with the Philadelphia Athletics, Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians, and Boston Red Sox.
Upon his death from a motel explosion in Lynwood, California, he was interred at Park Lawn Memorial Park in Commerce, Los Angeles, California.

He was the only pitcher ever to face both Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle in regular-season games. He pitched against Ruth when he was a rookie with the Philadelphia Athletics in 1934; Ruth was playing his final season with the Yankees. During Benton's final major-league season, in 1952 with the Boston Red Sox, he faced Mantle, who was playing his first full season with the Yankees.
