Produced in Manila, Aquino completed his Bachelor of Arts (major in Economics) from Ateneo de Manila University in 1981 and joined his family in their own exile in America soon afterwards. He returned to the Philippines in 1983 soon following the assassination of his father and held several positions working in the private sector. He was later reelected to the House in 2001 and 2004. On September 9, 2009, Aquino formally declared he’d be a nominee in the 2010 presidential election, held on May 10, 2010. On June 9, 2010, the Congress of the Philippines proclaimed Aquino the victor of the 2010 presidential election.
