Rob McConnell was born on February 14, 1935 in London, Ontario, Canada as Robert Murray Gordon McConnell. He was married to Anne Gibson and Margaret Bowman McConnell. He died on May 1, 2010 in Toronto, Ontario.
He won three Grammy Awards. His last Grammy Award was awarded in 1996 for his arrangement of "I Get a Kick Out of You" with Mel Tormé, and Velvet and Brass.

He is survived by his son, Brian McConnell; two daughters, Jennifer McConnell Vaandering and Robin McConnell; his brother Dan McConnell; sister Marion McConnell Bienvenue; and seven grandchildren.
