Michael Jay Feinstein (created September 7, 1956) is an American singer, pianist, and music revivalist. He’s an interpreter of, and an anthropologist and archivist for, the repertoire called the Great American Songbook. In 1988 he won a Drama Desk Special Award for observing American musical theater tunes. Feinstein can also be a multi-platinum-selling, five-time Grammy-nominated recording artist. He now serves as Artistic Director for The Centre for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana.
In 2010, PBS aired Michael Feinstein’s American Songbook, a three-part television documentary that depicts the annals of the American popular tune up to 1960, along with Feinstein’s own life and livelihood. He performs there for a sold out Christmas holiday stint every year, and at other times too. The club will soon be closing January 1, 2013, when the resort closes for renovations. A fresh place for the club is not yet been declared. Feinstein was also a part owner of the now-shut Speakeasy Supper Club in Chicago. Formerly, he managed a Feinstein’s nightclub in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. In 2008, he started his own London site, Feinstein’s at the Shaw.
