1[observation, 2013] There's definitely a nostalgia moment. 'Lights of Endangered Species' really marked the end of going down that rabbit hole. It was massively influenced by what Mark Hollis did on the last two 'Talk Talk' records. There was no synthetic stuff on it, it was all real instrumentation. At some point you get home and take off the backpack with all the stuff on it and you go, 'Give me a guitar and an overdrive pedal, damn it! Let's go!'
2[on his 2011 recording 'Lights of Endangered Species'] In 1996 I wouldn't have thought my daughter would've wandered downstairs while I was tracking vocals on a demo, saying 'Hey dad, let me sing'. And she ended up singing this bit that was so great that I used it, and it's all through 'Shallow's Low'.
