Jay Chou (created 18 January 1979) is a Taiwanese musician, singer songwriter, multi instrumentalist, performer and director. In 2000, Chou released his first album, titled “Jay” (2000), beneath the record company Alfa Music. Since then his music has gained recognition throughout Asia, most notably in areas like Taiwan, Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia as well as in western Asian communities like in America and Australia. He’s sold more than 30 million albums since his introduction. Chou continues to compose songs for other artists, work on his record and went on to win numerous awards in the music business. He’s since held five world tours, performing in cities all over the world to more than ten million individuals.
Chou debuted his performing career and made his film debut in “Initial D” (2005), and additionally since ventured into many picture jobs. Chou also manages his own record and management firm JVR Music. Chou’s compositions are broadly categorized as pop music. Taipei Times once described the significance of “Chou Style”: “In what’s become the archetypal Chou style, Taiwan’s favorite son mixes pop, rap, blues as well as a smorgasbord of esthetic elements of world music to make his dream like never-never land …”
