He works with many of the world’s leading orchestras including the Philadelphia, Cleveland and Los Angeles orchestras in the US, as well as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Wiener Symphoniker and the NHK Symphony in Japan.Gianandrea took up his role at Teatro Regio Torino in 2007 and has transformed it into a global theatre which tours internationally and which undertakes major recording projects, despite challenging economic conditions in his country. The company now has residencies in Japan and China, and in Europe at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. In 2013, to mark Verdi’s 200th birthday, he and his orchestra and chorus recorded two highly acclaimed CDs of arias with Anna Netrebko and Rolando Villazon for Deutsche Grammophon.Born in Milan, Gianandrea was the first foreign Principal Guest Conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. In 1999 he became Principal Guest Conductor at the Rotterdam Philharmonic and at the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI.
