Elmer R. Raguse (9 May 1901 – 2 March 1972) was an American sound engineer mostly associated with the Hal Roach Studios. He was nominated for eight Academy Awards in the categories Best Sound Recording and Best Effects.
Began his career in films as head of the sound department at Hal Roach Studios. Raguse initially worked as the on-set sound recordist but by 1932 delegated other sound mixers to this task, while Raguse supervised the final mix of the soundtrack. At that time, it was virtually a one-man job, whereas today there are dozens of technicians involved in post-production sound mix. At a smaller studio like Hal Roach Studios, the film editor also cut together the sound and music tracks for the short films.
