#Fact
1Though Carly sang the popular theme song "Nobody Does It Better" from the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), this was not her first liaison with 007. When she (then 20) and sister Lucy (22) were traveling on a liner from England to New York in 1965, they met Sean Connery (35) who invited them to his cabin for drinks and later proposed a ménage à trois. They purportedly declined and the proposal was later coined a "Simon sisters sandwich" by their friends.
2With her 1988 hit "Let the River Run" from the film Working Girl (1988), she became the first artist in history to win a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for a song written and performed entirely by a single artist.
3Awarded the ASCAP Founders Award in 2012.
4The Simon family home was located in Stamford, Connecticut.
5One of the few singer-songwriters from her generation to own all her music.
6Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.
7Grandmother of Bodhi Taylor Bragonier, born 4 October 2007.
8Daughter, Sally Taylor, is expecting Carly's first grandchild in September 2007.
9Her father was of German Jewish descent. Her maternal grandfather, Frederick A. Heinemann, was of German origin, and her maternal grandmother, Asuncion Elma Maria Del Rio, was of Spanish descent. Carly has stated that she may have distant Moorish heritage through her Spanish ancestry.
10She once said in an interview she never goes anywhere without her plush Daffy Duck toy. Daffy Duck is her all-time favorite cartoon character, and she has even hinted in several other interviews that he's the subject of her famous song "You're So Vain".
11In November 2001, "Let the River Run," her award-winning theme song from Working Girl (1988), was used in a memorable public service ad produced for the U.S. Postal Service. The ad, entitled "Pride," was a response to the 9/11 and anthrax attacks of 2001, and was intended to restore confidence and improve morale for the USPS.
12Is mentioned in the song "Life Is a Rock But the Radio Rolled Me" by Reunion.
13Sister, Lucy Simon, is a singer; brother, Peter Simon, is a photojournalist; sister, Joanna Simon, is an opera singer, was an Emmy-winning arts correspondent for PBS NewsHour (1975), and is the VP of Fox Residential Group real estate.
14In support of her latest album, "Moonlight Serenade" (July 2005), she has said she will be making public appearances, in direct defiance of her long-standing stage fright, about which she now says she "no longer has time for that negativity".
15In 2003, she held an auction for a charity on Martha's Vineyard at which she offered to tell the high bidder who the song "You're So Vain" is about. The winning bidder was Dick Ebersol, then-chairman of NBC Sports & Olympics, who paid $50,000. Ebersol had to sign a confidentiality agreement, but was allowed to give one hint: The man's name contains the letter E. Carly has since added an additional hint: The man's name also contains the letter A.
162003, fractured her shoulder falling in the bathtub.
17Carly's mother Andrea and her close personal friend Jacqueline Kennedy died four months apart. Carly wrote "Like a River" for her mother and "Touched by the Sun" for Jackie. Both songs appear on her 1994 "Letter's Never Sent" album.
18Diagnosed with breast cancer [October 1997]
19Son, Ben Taylor, is the lead singer of The Ben Taylor Band. They were the support for Sheryl Crow on her 2003 European tour.
20Won the 1972 Grammy for Best New Artist
21Ranked #28 on VH1's 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll
22Received an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts)
23Her song "You're So Vain" is allegedly about Warren Beatty.
24Children with James Taylor: Sally Taylor (b. 7 January 1974) and Ben Taylor (b. 22 January 1977).
25Her father was president and co-founder of Simon & Schuster publishing house.
26Wrote "Anticipation" (1971) about love interest Cat Stevens.
27Is the niece of singer 'Peter Dean'.
28Her song "You're So Vain" (released in late 1972) was a number-one pop hit in 1973.
29Has released musical albums (including CDs) on the Elektra, Warner Brothers, Epic, Arista, Rhino, Columbia, Hear Music, and Iris records.
