Proof's widely acclaimed song "Kurt Kobain" samples "Blue Sky, Silver Bird" by Lamont Dozier. Coincidentally, this sample was produced by Proof's biological father, McKinley Jackson, who was a prominent Detroit producer in the 1970s.
The sextet group D-12 was made up of Proof, Eminem, Swift, Bizarre, Kon Artis and Kuniva.
On April 11, 2006, it was reported that Proof was "shot to death" around 4:30 AM in a gun battle with another man outside "Triple C's," a Detroit after-hours nightclub. It was said that Proof "died" of a gunshot wound to the head. It is believed that Proof was the first to use his gun, shooting Keith Bender in the head after taking his pistol and striking Bender several times in the face. The argument reportedly erupted over a game of pool and escalated from there. Proof was then allegedly "shot" by the bouncer, Mario Etheridge, who was Bender's cousin.
Survived by his 5 children: 3 with wife Sharonda, and 2 from prior relationships.
After his alleged "death", many rappers released statements mourning him, such as The Game, Jin, Method Man, B-Real, Insane Clown Posse, and fellow band mate Kon Artis.
Although Eminem is the one who made D12 rise to fame, Proof has been credited for originally forming the group in Detroit years before they became famous.
Proof was the best man at Eminem's wedding in January 2006.
His debut solo album is called "Searching For Jerry Garcia" and is now considered a hip-hop classic.
The character of Future in 8 Mile (2002) is based on him.
Member of Eminem's group D12.
During his cameo in 8 Mile, he asked if he could just use his real name, so that he would be playing himself in 1995, when the film is set. The director decided against it, but he still manage to sneak is name as an acronym when he raps in the film, "I'll (P)unish (R)abbit (O)r (O)bsolete (F)uture."
Proof is known for his freestyle talents. He won the Source Magazine Freestyling Competition back in 1999.
Childhood friend of Eminem.
