John Beasley Smith (b. 1901 McEwen, Tennessee, d. 1968 Nashville, Tennessee) was an American composer. That Lucky Old Sun, one of his better known works, was covered by many well-known artists. He often worked with Haven Gillespie.
Composer, arranger and band leader, a graduate of Nashville's Vanderbilt University. Helped further the career of fellow Vanderbilt alumnus Dinah Shore. Best known compositions include "That Lucky Old Sun" and "Night Train to Memphis". Founded his own music publishing firm, the Randy-Smith Music Corporation, in 1953.
