Dmitry Lipkin is a television writer and playwright. He is the creator and head writer of The Riches. Lipkin is a Russian-born Jew who immigrated to Baton Rouge when he was 10 years old.Lipkin and Colette Burson, his wife and writing partner, created Hung, which started airing in June 2009. Hung involves high school baseball coach (played by Thomas Jane) who uses his large penis to his advantage, resorting to prostitution to lift himself out of debt. It is produced by Blueprint Entertainment's Michael Rosenberg and the pilot was directed by Alexander Payne.Burson's credits also include writing and directing the indie feature Coming Soon, starring Mia Farrow and Ryan Reynolds.
When he was 10 years old, Lipkin moved from Russia to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with his Russian Jewish family. While on the radio program "Fresh Air with Terry Gross," he told Gross that he was "vaguely" aware of being Jewish while in Russia, but once he got to Baton Rouge, his family became very involved in a Reform Jewish congregation there and he volunteered to be circumcised in accordance with Jewish tradition (normally, Jewish boys are circumcised at 8 days old, not in their preteens). He also had a Bar Mitzvah, the traditional coming-of-age ceremony for 13-year-old boys.
