Jay Chattaway (born July 8, 1946) is an American composer of film and television scores. He is mainly known for his work as composer for several Star Trek television series: Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Enterprise. The simple flute melody he composed for the TNG episode "The Inner Light" has been re-arranged for full orchestra and remains his best-known and most popular singular work.

1Received both his music degrees from West Virginia University, 28 years apart (Bachelor's in 1968 and Master's in 1996).
2He has written many award-winning scores for the later Star Trek television series. However his most enduring composition is a simple flute melody written for the episode "The Inner Light" (1992) of the series "Star Trek: The Next Generation". It has since been arranged for orchestra, other instruments and electronic remix. Original lyrics for this melody have also been written by several poets.
