Gerald McDermott (January 31, 1941 – December 26, 2012) was an American filmmaker, creator of children's picture books, and an expert on mythology. His creative works typically combine bright colors and styles with ancient imagery. His picture books feature folktales and cultures from all around the world.
American illustrator, animator, graphic designer and, briefly, child radio actor. His wife is a painter and author-illustrator of children's books. His film "Anansi the Spider" won the Blue Ribbon at the American Film Festival and was called one of "the two most popular children's films produced in 1970" by Wilson Library Bulletin. In 1972, the book version was published and was named a Caldecott Honor Book and won a Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for 1973.
