Donna Karan (created October 2, 1948), known also under the alias “DK”, is an American fashion designer as well as the originator of the “Donna Karan New York” and “DKNY” clothes labels. When Klein herself expired in 1974, Takihyo Corporation of Japan became the newest owner and Karan, jointly with her former classmate and buddy Louis Dell’Ollio, became head designer of the home. In 1984, Karan left Anne Klein and, jointly with her then husband Stephan Weiss and Takihyo Corporation, began her very own company “to design contemporary clothing for modern folks”. She showed her first women’s clothes range in 1985. Karan became well known for her ‘Essentials’ line, initially offering seven simple pieces which may all be mixed and matched, and created a totally incorporated wardrobe. Karan consistently insisted that she’d exclusively design clothing, like jersey dresses and opaque Lycra tights, that she’d also wear herself. In 1988, Karan, nicknamed The Queen Of Seventh Avenue, stretched her women’s ‘Donna Karan New York’ line by developing a less costly clothes line for younger girls, called DKNY. A couple of years after, she created DKNY Jeans, a denim-inspired range. DKNY for men was established in 1992, one year following the ‘Touch’ line for guys were presented. In August 2008, Karan relaunched her discontinued perfume lines in the 1990s
