America's preeminent military historian, Stephen E. Ambrose is the author of numerous bestselling books about World War II, including D-Day, Citizen Soldiers and The Victors, plus biographies of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. He is the founder of the Eisenhower Center and President of the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans.
The number one secret of being a successful writer is this: marry an English major.

The Canadians have managed to live peacefully with their Indians. It is a disgrace that the United States has not done the same.
3
I thought [Richard Nixon] was the worst President we had ever had, save only perhaps Andrew Johnson.

[Dwight D. Eisenhower] is my choice as the American of the 20th century. Of all the men I've studied and written about, he is the brightest and the best.
Shortly before his death in 2002, Ambrose was accused of plagiarizing work from several sources. It was later shown that the material was simply cited incorrectly rather than stolen; Ambrose contained source information in footnotes, but neglected to place the passages in traditional quotation marks.
