Terry Semel Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018

Terry Semel (created February 24, 1943) is an American corporate executive who had been the chairman and CEO of Yahoo! Incorporated. In June 2007, Semel stepped down as CEO due in part to pressure from stockholders’ discontent over Semel’s compensation (in 2006 – wages $1, stock options worth $70 million) and performance. In exactly the same interval, Yahoo’s closest rival, Google, found stock increase of about 55% per year.

Inside a month that stock was trading at $56.00, making him a gain of $50 million on that grant alone. Between 2003 and 2006 he netted $450 million as an effect of exercising options and selling stock. On March 7, 2007 he held stock and unexercised options having a value of $350 million, which he was allowed as damages. During June 2006, Terry Semel’s yearly salary was reduced to one dollar, in exchange for numerous stock options in Yahoo. His preceding yearly salary was US$600,000. He keeps another 18.6 million unexercised stock options. As CEO, Semel approved Yahoo!’s co-operation with Chinese officials to release formerly secret Yahoo! advice to the Chinese authorities. This activity by Yahoo! wasn’t well received and Semel revealed hints of sorrow regarding how that advice had been used. For instance, in a broadly publicized exchange in The Wall Street Journal’s All Things Digital conference, Semel was requested if Yahoo! would have collaborated with Nazi Germany. In response, Semel, who’s Jewish, said, “I do not understand how I ‘d have felt then.” He added, “I do not feel good about what is occurring in China now.” Semel had dinner with Larry Page and Sergey Brin, asking them what their company was with Yahoo paying just $7 million per annum as its largest licensor of Google search technology. So Semel proposed to purchase Google. They answered they needed $1 billion and did not need to sell. Semel said he had look at the cost. Another dinner and Semel consented to the $1 billion. Larry Page and Sergey Brin responded they needed $3 billion and did not need to sell.
