Theodore “Ted” Waitt (created January 18, 1963) is an American billionaire philanthropist who had been a cofounder of Gateway, Inc. Through the Waitt Foundation, Waitt has become one of America’s 50 most generous philanthropists, based on Business Week. The Foundation funds partnerships and jobs, occasionally in conjunction or cooperation using the Waitt Institutes, that seek a more profound comprehension of human history and boost humanity’s knowledge through historic and scientific investigation. Created in 1993, the Foundation initially focused on domestic violence prevention and community development, understanding that building stronger families and societies will help nurture the vision of an improved world. The development of the Waitt Institutes in 2005—the Waitt Institute, and the Waitt Institute for Violence Prevention—has enabled the Foundation to expand its system interests to the international community. Waitt serves as the Chairman of the Founding Fathers campaign of the Family Violence Prevention Fund, only among the attempts he supports in the struggle to stop domestic violence. On 1 May 2008, the Salk Institute for Biological Studies declared the grant of $20 million from the Waitt Foundation to finance the development of an Advanced Biophotonics Center. It contained Theodore Waitt, who gave between US$10–25 million. $4 million of its $13 million development funding was given by the Waitt Foundation.
