Philip Niarchos (alternately: Philippos or Philippe; Greek: ) was created in 1954, the oldest son of the Greek shipping magnate Stavros Niarchos (1909–1996) and Eugenia Livanos (1926–1970), herself the older daughter of Stavros Niarchos’ competition Stavros G. Livanos (1891–1963). Philip Niarchos possesses his late dad’s art collection. The late Stavros Niarchos amassed among the “most significant groups of Impressionist and modern art in private hands.” One of the group’s prizes are Pablo Picasso’s self portrait Yo, Picasso, which the father had purchased in 1989 for $47,850,000. Philip Niarchos has made lots of accessions to his dad’s heritage. He was definitely in the auction and was disclosed as the anonymous buyer of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s 1982 Self Portrait, which closed at $3.3 million. In 1994, he purchased Andy Warhol’s Red Marilyn, at Christie’s for $3.63 million.
