She’s creator and chief executive officer of ACT-1 Group, the biggest minority woman-owned employment agency in America. After graduation, she moved to La, California and worked for “Billboard” magazine. She started ACTION-1 in a modest Beverly Hills office in 1978, with “Billboard” as her first customer. Now, the firm has offices in 75 U.S. cities and its customers include Ford Motor Company, Cingular, and Sempra Energy. In 2003, Howroyd’s business put third on the “Black Enterprise” magazine listing of Top Black-Owned Industrial/Service Companies in The United States. In 2005, she received the Nature of American Business Presidential Award.
