David Alan Tepper (born September 11, 1957) is an American hedge fund manager as well as the creator of Appaloosa Management. His investment specialization is distressed firms. He earned his BA in Economics in the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 and his MBA (subsequently known as an MSIA) in the Tepper School of Business (subsequently called GSIA) of Carnegie Mellon University in 1982.
