Thomas Francis Eagleton (September 4, 1929 – March 4, 2007) was a United States Senator from Missouri, serving from 1968 to 1987. He is best remembered for briefly being the Democratic vice presidential nominee under George McGovern in 1972. After his public service he became adjunct professor of public affairs at Washington University.

1He was a first cousin, once removed, of British actor Dominic West. Thomas's paternal grandparents, Thomas Francis Eagleton and Mary Theresa Hennelly (who had moved to Missouri from Ireland), were also the paternal great-grandparents of West.
2Was elected circuit attorney of the City of St. Louis in 1956. In 1960 he was elected Attorney General of Missouri and held the office until 1964 when he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Missouri.
3Was the Democratic Party's original vice-presidential running mate of Senator George McGovern in 1972, until Eagleton acknowledged that he had had treatment for depression that included psychiatric counseling and electric shock treatments. He resigned from the ticket and was replaced by R. Sargent Shriver on 8 August 1972 by a vote of the Democratic National Committee.
4Democrat U.S. senator from Missouri, 28 December 1968-3 January 1987. Incumbent senator Edward V. Long lost the 1968 primary election to Eagleton; when Eagleton was elected to the seat in November, Long resigned 27 December 1968 and Eagleton was appointed to fill the unexpired term through 3 January 1969.
