Silvia Richards was a screenwriter who worked on a number of films in the 1940s and 1950s, including the film noir Ruby Gentry and the Western Rancho Notorious. She also wrote for television in the 1950s and early 1960s.
A former communist, she was called upon to testify before HUAC.

As her screenwriting assignments dried up, she reinvented herself as a nursery school teacher.

In addition to marrying the novelist and screenwriter A.I. Bezzerides, she was also at one time the wife of screenwriter Robert L. Richards. She also had a long relationship with the director Fritz Lang, who encouraged her screen-writing ambitions and used her as a writer on both "Secret Beyond The Door" and "Rancho Notorious".
