James Hardiman (1782–1855), also known as Séamus Ó hArgadáin, was a librarian at Queen's College, Galway. The university library now bears his name. Hardiman is best remembered for his History of the Town and County of Galway (1820) and Irish Minstrelsy (1831), one of the first published collections of Irish poetry and songs.
Was at one time director of radio and television promotions for Walt Disney Productions. He also worked in the press departments at CBS, Columbia Pictures Television and Screen Gems.

He was named "Hollywood Showman of the Year" by the Screen Publicists Guild in 1968.

He left England to travel the world as a merchant seaman in 1937. He was a survivor of a sea battle near Africa.
