Jenson Alexander Lyons Button was produced on January 19, 1980 in Frome, Somerset, England. He could be the fourth kid of South African-created Rallycross motorist John Button. His dad was well known throughout the U.K. during the 1970s for his Colorado Beetle Volkswagen.
When Button was eight his dad bought him his first kart. He was a natural in the sport, coming in first place in the 1989 British Super Prix. In 1991 his father became the British Cadet Kart Champ after winning all 34 races.
As a result of his exceptional racing record, Jenson won the 1998 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Prize. For several years Jenson changed teams racing for Benetton (became Renault in 2002) and )BAR in 2003. In 2004 while racing for PUB Jenson placed third in the World Drivers’ Championship. PUB was renamed to Honda during the 2006 season which is when Jenson won his first Grand Prix in Hungary.
Honda pulled away from the sport in 2009 and left Button with no drive for the 2008 racing season. Ross Brawn bought out the team and Button was shortly driving a car having an extremely competitive Mercedes engine. Ross won the 2009 World Drivers’ Championship in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
As of 2010 Jenson Button signed to the McLaren team. Jenson ended the 2011 season as runner up. Top Gear named Jenson Button among its “Men of the Year” in 2009 and 2011.
