Christian Rosha Hosoi (/hos/ “hoh SOY”; produced October 5, 1967) is an American professional skateboarder. He’s also known by the nicknames “Christ” and “Holmes”. He left Powell Peralta a year after when they wouldn’t permit him to turn professional and joined Dogtown Skateboards. After Dogtown went out of business soon afterwards, he turned professional in the age of 14 with Sims Skateboards. Hosoi devised the Christ Atmosphere and Rocket Air, and was famous for pulling enormous aerials; at one point he was the world record holder. Vertical skateboarding grew in viewer popularity with prize money to fit. This, coupled with important sanctions with Converse, Swatch, and Jimmy’Z, in addition to receiving a master version wheel, the OJ II Hosoi Rocket through Santa Cruz Speed Wheels, bringing in Hosoi more cash than he’d ever imagined. In 1984 he formed his own firm, Hosoi Skates, first distributed through Skull Skates, subsequently through NHS INC. The board proved to be so popular that it had been counterfeited. When road skating started to emerge in the mid-to-late 80s, Hosoi demonstrated a danger at the same time, winning the vert and road competitions in the Lotte Cup competition in Japan in 1989.
