He was married to Tereza Campbell, Barbara Bricker and Judith Campbell Exner. He died on April 28, 2011 in Woodland Hills, California, USA.
Following his death, he was interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.

During and following his acting career, he worked with the Motion Picture & Television Fund, and at one point was its administrator chief fundraiser. He died at age 87 in 2011, at the Motion Picture & Television Fund's hospital in Woodland Hills, California.
