Shirley Anne Manson Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018

Shirley Ann Manson (born 26 August 1966) is a Scottish musician and actress, best known internationally as the lead vocalist of the alternative rock band Garbage. For much of her international career Manson commuted between her home city of Edinburgh and the United States to record with Garbage; she now lives and works in Los Angeles. Manson gained media attention for her forthright style, rebellious attitude and distinctive voice.Manson's musical career began in her teens when she was approached to perform backing vocals and keyboards for Scottish band Goodbye Mr. Mackenzie. Quickly she developed into a prominent member of the group and developed a formidable stage presence. Manson was approached by her band's record label with the idea of launching her as a solo artist, and recorded an album with her band under the Angelfish name. After seeing Manson in an Angelfish video broadcast only once on MTV's 120 Minutes, Garbage invited Manson to record vocals on a few of their songs; she eventually co-wrote and co-produced an entire album with the band. The resulting self-titled debut, Garbage, was a critically acclaimed, worldwide hit, and was followed by four studio albums, including the multiple Grammy Award-nominated Version 2.0, and a greatest hits album. Garbage toured worldwide and sold 12 million records over ten years. In 2006, Manson began to write and record solo material after Garbage was put on "hiatus" and in 2008 was cast in her first professional acting role on the second and final season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles as series regular Catherine Weaver, a liquid metal T-1001 Terminator. Manson returned to the recording studio in 2010 to write and produce material for the group's fifth studio album Not Your Kind of People.

1Failure is a part of life, and without it you'll never succeed. You build your arsenal by experience, by standing back up to take another hit. I wish I had known that more in my own life. Instead, I just sat there looking at everybody else-she's this, she's that, she comes from money, she's beautiful, she's a great athlete. Eventually I did make whatever small gifts I have work for me, but I think most women feel that they are not good enough, and my point is you are.
2When you're signed to a record label, you have to run all your music through them, and they decide whether they will release it or not. After a while, you just want to scream, and hand them some really obscure, weird, obtuse, unmarketable music, but then of course they'd never release it. I think taking a hiatus was our reaction against that. We wanted to free ourselves of that straitjacket. Then, of course, years passed, and you start to feel creative again, and get excited about the notion of getting into a room with people you love, and making music. That's basically what happened.
3We found ourselves in a fractious relationship with our record label. They had an idea of how they saw our career which wasn't in line with how we saw it ourselves. They felt a band was worthless unless they were the biggest band in the world but being the biggest band in the world wasn't an ambition we had for ourselves.
4Selling millions of albums is a sign you've infiltrated the culture.
5I'm looking at what's happened with Lana Del Rey, and I feel sympathy for her. That kind of venom is what I attracted when we first came out. Everyone called me a fake even though I'd been in bands for a decade - everybody was really on our back. We weren't "real," whatever that fucking meant.
6I couldn't feel good about myself hanging out in Armani clothes when my girlfriend can't even pay her heating bill. I'd feel foul and I'd be embarrassed.
7I am not a sexy woman, I'm not beautiful, I'm not a sex kitten, I don't flirt with people, yet I've been tagged more of sex symbol than women who truly are and I that's solely because I don't reveal too much: people are curious.
8A lot of people these days are not music lovers - they just want to be famous which is a very different thing to what I grew up believing in.
9A lot of celebrities just want money, fame, power, fancy cars, houses all over the world and have people bow down to them. To me, that's frightful behaviour.
10I look at today's charts, at the women who are selling the most records, getting the most column inches, and I'm terrified by how they are all controlled by a male corporate idea of what women and rebels should be. When Christina Aguilera is taken seriously as a rebellious figure, we have a huge problem.
11"Until, I think, everyone in that school thought I was less than human. I felt ugly, weak, overwhelmed - I couldn't imagine being capable of doing anything. I certainly never thought I could be in a band. This was a dream it didn't even occur to me to dream about." (1998, Select Magazine)
12I'm afraid of happy people. They're chemically unbalanced.
13"Here am I. I'm 38. My career's probably never been better. And I've made a decision which may or may not impact on it - I refuse to hide my experience and my age, as if it's something I should be ashamed of. I'm alive. I know lots of people who've never been lucky enough to get to this stage in their life. And I'm not gonna hide it for anybody." (about being almost 40)
14"Speech is my absolute lifeline and I felt like I'd lost my personality, been stripped completely of me; I felt invisible." (About having a cyst removed from her vocal chords)
15"Young girls now correlate the word 'sexy' with nakedness. It's practically, 'Show us your labia'. If you play that game of allowing yourself to be judged by your physicality, it will not sustain you through a long career. There's always going to be someone younger, more beautiful, more desirable. It's a temple of dust." (About the music industry)
16'The truth is, I've always been wracked with self-loathing and terrible, paralysing depression" (Talking about her childhood years and the terrible self-image she had as a child)
17I love looking at naked bodies, male or female, whenever possible. I think nudity is always tasteful.
1To date (2009), Sheena Easton, Lulu and Manson (singing with Garbage) are the only Scottish artists to have sung 007 title songs, respectively: For Your Eyes Only (1981), The Man with the Golden Gun (1974) and The World Is Not Enough (1999). Ironically, neither movie featured fellow-Scot Sean Connery as James Bond.
2In the music video of "The World is Not Enough". Shirley Manson played a robot replica of Shirley Manson who kills the real Shirley Manson and takes hr place. In "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", Shirley Manson played Catherine Weaver, A T-1000 liquid metal Terminator.
3Her favourite movie is Oldeuboi (2003).
4Promoting her new album "Bleed like me" (Available in music stores since April 11, 2005) all around Europe. [April 2005]
5Joined the cast of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008), as a regular cast member. [2008]
6Recording solo works with producer David Arnold, while on a break from Garbage. [April 2006]
7Was supposed to have a solo musical career but cancelled it when her record label dismissed her work as "too noir". She reunited her alternative rock band Garbage, for a new album called "Not Your Kind of People". Garbage self-released the album on their new independent label, Stun Volume Records.
8Her band Garbage has preformed with american ska rock band No Doubt and Shirley has preformed with Gwen Stefani on her tour.
9Has reported that she used to cut herself as a teenager, even keeping a Swiss Army Knife in her boots, and has since used her celebrity status to bring awareness to the dangers of self-mutilation.
10Her band, Garbage, went on an extended hiatus in late 2005, although the have worked together, infrequently, since.
11In 2005, she revealed that she has the condition body dysmorphia, which may be the root of the depression which she has mentioned previously.
12Her divorce from sculptor husband Eddie Farrell became final in 2005. They had been separated since 2003.
13She had a cyst removed from her vocal chords during the Beautiful Garbage period.

18She had piano lessons as a child.
19She has an orange Fender Stratocaster which she named "Rita".
20Her favorite singer is Frank Sinatra
21She quit smoking after her husband's nephew died of cancer at age seven
22Lead singer, lyricist, guitarist, and co-producer on Garbage's five albums - the 1995 debut release "Garbage", 1998's follow-up "Version 2.0", 2001's "beautiful garbage", 2005's "Bleed Like Me, and 2012's "Not Your Kind of People". These albums have sold over 17 million copies to date.
