Sam Troughton (born 21 March 1977) is a British actor. He is the son of David Troughton and the grandson of Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton. His younger brother is Warwickshire cricketer Jim Troughton. Troughton studied drama at the University of Hull, graduating in 1998.Troughton is an acclaimed Shakespearean actor who was nominated for an award while with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He has also starred in the horror films Spirit Trap (with Billie Piper) and Alien vs. Predator, and several television productions including Sky One's Hex. He has also appeared in the SAS drama Ultimate Force. From October 2006 he appeared in the BBC Robin Hood series (2006–2009), in which he features as Robin's ex-manservant, Much. Troughton's grandfather Patrick Troughton starred in the first Robin Hood television series in 1953.Troughton's stage roles include the love-struck Orlando in Samuel West's production of Shakespeare's As You Like It at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. He returned to the RSC as part of the 2009-2011 ensemble, appearing at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. In 2009 he played Marcus Brutus in Julius Caesar and Third Gentleman in The Winter's Tale, and in 2010 he played Romeo in Romeo & Juliet and King Arthur in Morte D'Arthur at the Courtyard Theatre. Other roles include a stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire in Liverpool.He played Thomas in Bull at the Crucible Studio Theatre in Sheffield in 2013, and will play Edmund in King Lear at the Royal National Theatre in January 2014.
In Hex (2004), he played Remiel, a fallen angel in the service of Satan, who poses as a Catholic priest named Father Jez Heriot while in The Omen (1976), his grandfather Patrick Troughton played Father Brennan, a Catholic priest who is killed by Satan.

He is reportedly interested in playing a villain in Doctor Who (2005). His grandfather Patrick Troughton played the Second Doctor in Doctor Who (1963) from 1966 to 1969 while his father David Troughton has appeared in both that series and Doctor Who (2005).

He has two younger brothers, James "Jim" Troughton (born on March 2, 1979) and William "Wigsy" Troughton (born October 4, 1984).

Neither he nor his father David Troughton were aware that his late grandfather Patrick Troughton had played the title character in Robin Hood (1953) until he was cast as Much, Robin's trusted friend and ally, in Robin Hood (2006).
Sam's performance as Young Talbot in the RSC's production of Henry VI earned him a nomination for the Ian Charleson Award 2001 for outstanding performance by a young actor in a classical theatre role.
