About Whistling Woods: We have been working on it for the past three to four years. The building is almost complete and we should be ready by July. It will be an autonomous body and I will only be promoting it. Education is not my business, making films is - but the institute is my passion right now. There is so much talent in India that needs a platform. Whistling Woods is going to be a world-class institute, the only one of its kind in Asia. As a matter of fact, I love to teach and hope to do some at the institute. As Indian cinema expands further, it will have to become more competitive and I think the institute will offer us that edge.
I don't let pressures get to me. I have to make something that I enjoy first. What I enjoy will be hopefully enjoyed by audiences.
If you look at the ticket sales, India and the US are nearly the same. Where we lose out is on the currency valuation. The rupee is weaker than the dollar. So while we may be selling as many tickets, our revenues are significantly less in dollar terms.
Before the release of Kisna: The Warrior Poet (2005):" Kisna: The Warrior Poet (2005) required fresh faces. In fact, we had taken screen tests and finalized a new boy when my writers and associate directors told me it would be too much of strain training new faces together. I was shaping a dancer into an actress (Isha Shravani), a British actress (Anotonia Bernath) and this training would be a huge challenge for me. We decided to go for a theater actor and while we were searching, we thought: why not take an upcoming actor? He would be able to play the poet and the warrior Kisna, as he had done a variety of roles."
After the release of Kisna: The Warrior Poet (2005) :"History will judge Kisna: The Warrior Poet (2005) differently. In time it will be considered a classic."
There are two stars that have always shown love and respect for me, whether my films have done well or not - Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan. Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt have taken me for granted.
