The producers of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) requested a "Megan Gallagher type" for the role of Nurse Garland in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Little Green Men (1995). Upon hearing about this, her agent contacted them and said that Gallagher might be able to do it herself. She was then offered the role.
Before appearing in movies, she appeared in an off-off-Broadway production of the August Strindberg play, "Miss Julie", in the basement of a church on East 90th Street in New York City. She was a lovely fresh-faced 23 year old at the time (c. 1983). There could not have been more than 20 people in the audience, but they were all captivated by her. Her later success was too long delayed but totally expected.
