Mary Dees was born on June 3, 1911 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, USA as Mary Ella Dees. She is known for her work on The Women (1939), Dinner at Eight (1933) and Footlight Parade (1933). She died on August 4, 2004 in Lake Worth, Florida, USA.
In November 2011 her remains were interred near her parents in the Evergreen Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, AL where she lived at one time.

She was a long-term date of boxer Jack Dempsey and reputedly dated mobster Johnny Roselli. In 1937 she met King Kong star Bruce Cabot while working on Bad Guy. Their relationship ended in the early 1940s.

Dees had been Jean Harlow's stand-in in two movies before being hired as a double for Harlow in Saratoga (1937). She had a higher-pitched voice than Harlow, so a second double was hired to do the voice of the character.
