John Guedel, (Oct. 9, 1913, Portland, Indiana – Dec. 14, 2001, Los Angeles, California) was a radio and television producer who co-created and produced Art Linkletter's and Groucho Marx's most important and successful broadcast properties, including You Bet Your Life and People Are Funny. He also created The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet and is sometimes credited with the first singing radio commercial in 1937.Earlier in his career, he wrote for Hal Roach Studios, including work on the Laurel and Hardy and Our Gang series.
In 1941, Guedel was vice president in charge of radio for the Dan B. Miner Advertising Co. of Los Angeles when he met Linkletter. The two formed Guedel and Linkletter Productions that same year. Their first show was "People Are Funny," which began on radio in 1942, moving to television in 1954. Linkletter and Guedel also teamed up to do "House Party," which ran for several years. Other programs they produced included "Earn Your Vacation," a summer replacement show for Jack Benny whose star was future "Tonight Show" host Johnny Carson.
