I always had in the back of my mind that, rightly or wrongly, I expected to work more when I was older because I had not, in fact, become a star in my 20s or 30s. I still feel I've only gotten better as an actress. I knew that if I just hung in there, I could really have a shot. I just didn't know where it would come from. There's a security in slogging on in that you don't have the time or wherewithal to say, 'Oh, poor me.' I always felt that if I plugged along, I knew my breaks would come.
