She was nicknamed Darling because she was the only girl in the family.
Of Irish-Filipino ancestry. Father is half Irish.
Discovered by renowned film and stage director Lamberto V. Avellana and veteran actress Boots Anson-Roa during a Christmas party of the Quezon Institute where her mother used to work then.
Her first screen name was Darling Postigo when she appeared in her first film Ang pag-ibig ko'y huwag mong sukatin (1975) where she plays as daughter of her discoverer, Boots Anson-Roa.
When she was launched, her screen name was changed to Julie Vega upon the recommendation of Dr. Larry Santiago. Contrary to popular belief that the movie was intentionally made for her, the then child actress actually took the audition and only placed third place among over 200 applicants for the role. But Santiago wanted her to star in the movie.
