Joe Mayo Bio/Wiki, Net Worth, Married 2018Joseph "Joe" Mayo (born 25 May 1951 in Tipton, Staffordshire, England) is a retired English professional footballer who played as a striker.He was born in Tipton in 1951 and was a pupil at Horseley Heath infant and junior schools before attending Tipton Grammar School from 1962 to 1967. He then played for several local sides and in the 1971-72 had an unsuccessful trial with Football League side Oxford United, before finally getting his first professional contract in September 1972, aged 21, with Walsall.He made seven senior appearances for the Fellows Park side in a five-month spell before he was sold to West Bromwich Albion for £17,000 in February 1973. He made his senior debut in the Second Division against Hull City in September that year and became a first team regular in the 1974-75 season. However, he lost his place in the first team three seasons later and was sold to Orient, back in the Second Division, in February 1978. He helped the unfancied East London side reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup that season, and continued to do well over the next few seasons, totalling 40 goals in 177 games for the club.He left Brisbane Road in September 1981, transferring to Cambridge United for £100,000. He was loaned to Blackpool in the autumn of 1982, where he played five League games and scored one goal, followed by a spell in Hong Kong with Happy Valley United the following summer. He was appointed assistant manager of Welsh side Caernarfon Town in 1986 but left the following year.In his entire playing career, Mayo played more than 300 senior games and scored 75 goals.He has since worked as a hotelier in North Wales.
