Famous tenor who was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Opera. He usually sang the famous Wagner roles, but is said to have held the record as the tenor who sang the title role in Verdi's "Otello" more times than any other at the Met, although it is quite possible that this record has since been broken by Placido Domingo.
