Quote
1
I had three prime time series and you tell someone to watch it and he's available to see it. He's at home with his family. Daytime is different. There's really no gratification doing a job when so many of your peers don't see it...So the gratification comes from the actor himself. He either enjoys the part, or it becomes a very difficult medium to act in.

Ten percent of the actors work and the rest are unemployed...I don't know why actors aren't half dead with ulcers. But for some reason they can bite the bullet. You can get so many rejections you learn to hold it in.

Fact
1
In his series Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers (1956), the story of the British Cavalry unit, Phil's lead character was made Canadian instead of British because the New Jersey-born actor had difficulty perfecting an English accent.
2
Was offered the part of Asa Buchanan on One Life to Live (1968) on the strength of his unsuccessful audition for Palmer Cortlandt on the soap All My Children (1970).
3
Was diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2006.
