Freddie Garrity founded the group in 1959. They hit the charts in the US for the first time in 1965 with "I'm Telling You Now". They had another hit with "Do the Freddie", named after the manic moves of Garrity during their performances. The original group was disbanded in 1969, and reformed in 1976, touring for the next 25 years.
