Eddie Mercado was an actor, known for Wanted: Perfect Mother (1970), Dito sa aking puso (1972) and Anghel ng pag-ibig (1972). He was married to Marivic Mercado and Marivic. He died on September 18, 2006 in Parañaque City, Philippines.
He expired around 3:30 pm on September 18, 2006, at the Parañaque Medical Center due to multiple organ failure. He was cremated at the Trinity Funeral Homes, and his ashes was buried at the Alabang New Christian Life Center.

One of the earlier shows that Mercado hosted and for which he gained fame and popularity was the ""Darigold Jamboree" (1969) Bulilit Contest on Channel 11 which he co-hosted with Leila Benitez. Among the more successful products of the contest were Richard Merk, who was champion for 18 weeks, and Nora Aunor who reigned champion for 14 weeks.

Richard Merk, one of the celebrities he gave showbiz break, organized a fund raising concert for Eddie Mercado (held at Merk's Bar Bistro) to support an operation to remove part of his scalp.

During his time, he was the most sought-after host of beauty contests and other big events in the country. Before he became sick, he was the regular host of Pagcor shows and big bingo events.

On May 2004, he had a stroke which greatly affected his voice and mobility. His right body was also paralyzed and that was why he was confined to a wheelchair until his death.
